Cortland Defeats Rowan Profs 24-14
September 19, 2009. Cortland won its second straight game of the young season, defeating pre-season NJAC favorite Rowan University 24-14.
Senior Defensive End Brian Wiley had 15 tackles, 3 for losses. Sophomore linebacker Cody Allen added 11 tackles, Lou Crispo and Evan Wyler 7 tackles each.
Cortland never trailed the visiting Profs. Dan Pitcher hit Eric Hajnos on a 7-yard touchdown pass 5:05 into the 1st quarter to start the scoring. Wayne Wheeler caught a 21-yard touchdown throw from Pitcher. Fullback Dom Sair had a 2-yard touchdown run early in the 4th quarter to put Cortland ahead 24-14. It was their first collegiate touchdowns for both Wheeler and Sair. Cortland took a 17-14 lead into the half. The Profs would not score in the second half.
Pitcher passed for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns, but left the game in the 4th quarter to injury and had to be helped off the field. Junior quarterback Hudson Woodward, a 2007 walk-on to the Red Dragons roster, relieved Pitcher.
