Cortland Slams West Conn 35-6
October 17, 2009. A strong defensive effort and junior tailback Dom Sair powered Cortland to a 35-6 win over the West Conn Colonials Saturday in Cortland.
Sair rushed for a career high 163 yards and 2 touchdowns, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. Freshman tailback Justin Autera made his own mark on the game, returning a kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, and returning a punt 59 yards for another touchdown.
The Cortland defense smothered the Colonials, holding them to only 157 yards total offense. The Red Dragons had 6 sacks, 3 by Evan Wyler and 2 by Brian Wiley. Wiley added 9 tackles and a forced fumble, and Wyler forced a second fumble. D.J. Romano had 5 tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup. Cody Allen added 5 solo tackles and 8 tackles overall.
Senior Eric Hajnos became only the 14th Red Dragon to have 100 career catches.
Cortland ran its record to 4-2 overall and in the NJAC. West Conn is 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the NJAC.
