ECAC and NJAC Honors for Pitcher and Wyler

9/19/2009

Junior quarterback Dan Pitcher and senior defensive end Evan Wyler are the latest Cortland Red Dragons to be honored by both the ECAC and NJAC. Pitcher has been named Offensive Player of the Week in both the NJAC and ECAC.  In his first collegiate start, Pitcher passed for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Cortland past Morrisville 26-17.  Pitcher completed 19-of-27 passes and ran for a 68-yard touchdown.  The run tied a Cortland record for longest run by a quarterback, matching Gene Fitzpatrick's 1959 record run against Alfred University.

Evan Wyler dominated the line of scrimmage against Morrisville, registering eight solo tackles and 12 overall tackles in his first collegiate start.  Wyler forced a fumble, made 1.5 sacks, and was in on 2.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Wyler had eight tackles (two for losses) in a 42-0 NCAA playoff victory against Curry in 2008.  Wyler was an honor roll student as a 2006 graduate from Warwick Valley.  Wyler led his high school in sacks as a two year starter.

Pitcher graduated from Cortland High School in 2005, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete.  Pitcher started in the prestigious Governor's Bowl.  After high school Pitcher attended Colgate University, where he was a Dean's List student and a two year member of the football team.
